As we continue to stay home and social distance to help slow the spread of COVID-19, our morning routines may look different. Instead of rushing out the door to work or school, many people are now making their morning cup of coffee from the comfort of their kitchen. But, if you don’t have a fancy coffee machine, you might be wondering how you can still recreate your go-to coffee order without your barista. (And if you’re in the market for one, check out our test kitchen’s favorite espresso makers here.)
Luckily for us, Starbucks just shared three tips to upgrade your at-home coffee using simple, pantry-friendly ingredients on Instagram.

Cinnamon
For their first tip, Starbucks recommends adding a dash of cinnamon to your coffee grounds before brewing. We love this suggestion because it introduces the nutty flavor of cinnamon, without any extra calories. Not to mention, the combination of cinnamon and coffee will make your kitchen smell amazing. If you want to try grinding your own coffee beans, we love this coffee grinder (Bed Bath & Beyond, $99).
Honey
Instead of adding sugar to your coffee, Starbucks suggests substituting it for honey. While honey is still considered an added sugar, it’ll give your coffee a more subtle, floral flavor (and honey has some pretty impressive health benefits).
Condensed Milk
If you want to up your iced coffee game, Starbucks proposes using condensed milk instead of creamer. Condensed milk is thicker (and much sweeter) than regular cream, so be mindful of that if you’re watching calories or your sugar intake. But for a fun treat, we love using condensed milk because it tastes amazing and you can try your hand at creating coffee patterns. Use a clear glass so you can see all of the cool swirls of coffee and condensed milk. (We love this 16 oz. glass from Bed Bath & Beyond, $4.)
With these tips, you’ll become a professional at-home barista in no time! But, if you’re looking forward to trips to your local Starbucks, learn more about their plan to reopen stores. Until then, enjoy your morning coffee from the comfort of your home!
